Advancing to V5 from VEX IQ

Any tips to keep students engaged after IQ? We have a high school program but students seem to get discouraged after joining v5. It is also harder to keep students interested after joining more demanding sports and jobs. Thanks!

This is a good question! To start, I think it’s important to show students what they learned from using IQ still applies when they transition into the metal structure. Building a simple robot like the TrainingBot and then getting a chance to drive it or code it in small challenges can help them see that they can be successful building and also apply those coding and driving skills they learned previously. Especially since VEXcode is the same from IQ to V5.

Then I would lean into things like classroom competitions to really keep that motivation going. Even if you have a competition team and are just getting started for the year, going through a classroom competition STEM Lab can help students remember just how fun robotics can be! There’s a whole article we have about using the EXP Classroom Competition STEM Labs with V5 Kits if you want to look more into that.

Let me know if any of these ideas help! Im sure we can all come up with more together
