Arm Install Program and Mastering Joint 1

Hello everyone! I got asked a question the other day about the Arm Install program and mastering Joint 1 and I wanted to share my response here since I see this issue often.

After the base of the arm is built, the built instructions direct you to download and run the Arm Install program (around step 43 in the build instructions).

When ‘Target’ is pressed, the positioning of the base shows the target values passing only when the base has rotated 90 degrees from its starting point, like so.

The question is, why does this happen and what can we do to fix it?

To begin troubleshooting, the first thing I always suggest is to check the build. Is the potentiometer attached to the base correctly?

If the potentiometer is attached to the base correctly, it may need to be manually adjusted. Please keep in mind that the potentiometer should be manually adjusted to the correct passing range once the arm is oriented correctly (facing forward towards the Brain).

If it is adjusted while the arm is rotated, it will not fix the issue. The steps for this are outlined in this article.

Once Joint 1 has been manually adjusted, you can try pressing ‘Target’ again and it should pass correctly without rotating.

Let me know if this helps!

Hi @Lauren_Harter any advice if we have done all of these steps and haven’t had any luck?

Hi @Marissa_Brown! I’m sorry to hear the steps are not working as intended, would you be able to send me a video of what is happening as you are trying to master joint 1 so I can gain a better understanding of the process?

We can also set up a 1-1 Session to walk through it if you would rather
