Attaching Sensors to the EXP Clawbot

Has anyone found a good way to attach sensors to the clawbot? It seems like no matter what we do the claw gets in the way.
Thanks!

Hi @Ray_Johnson and welcome to the community!

What type of sensors are you trying to add to the Clawbot and for what purpose? This will help us determine the best location for the sensors.

The color and distance sensors. Thank You!

Hi @Ray_Johnson! Sounds good

How do you plan on using these sensors? If you’re using the Clawbot, are you trying to distinguish between different colored Buckyballs?

What you intend the robot to do will help identify sensor placement.

Hi Lauren, that’s exactly what we are trying to do. The color sensor to distinguish between red and blue and the distance to determine location. Thanks again!

Hi @Ray_Johnson! Great question. I know that we’ve attached sensors near the actual claw before in order to get accurate measurements.

I’ll tag @Matthew_Goodwin here, our Education Mechanical Engineer to give his insight on how to best mount them from an engineering perspective

Hey @Ray_Johnson, as Lauren mentioned, putting the sensors near the claw would be most advantageous in order to obtain accurate and relevant information. See the attached images below, specifically where I attached these sensors. The Distance sensor is located on the bottom of the claw, and the Optical sensor is located above where the Buckyball would be stored. I also added a spacer to the standoff inside the arm, this will make our arm not go down as low as before, leaving ample room with the lowered Distance sensor and the floor. Let me know if you have any questions for this configuration, or if you need any additional help when it comes to attaching these sensors to your bot.
