I just completed a camp at Penn State Beaver. We did a beach theme and it was really fun. Here are some of the activities we did:
Beach Bot Challenge:
- Create a beach-themed obstacle course and program a robot to navigate through it. Design challenges such as crossing a mini “water” pool or collecting seashells along the way.
Ice Cream Delivery Bot:
- Program robots to deliver different “flavors” of ice cream to designated locations. Use coding concepts to map out delivery routes, coordinate stops, and ensure accurate ice cream deliveries. Don’t forget to enjoy some real ice cream treats after completing the activity!
Campfire Storytelling Bot:
- Design a campfire storytelling session where a robot acts as the narrator of an interactive story. Program the robot to move, gesture, and change its color to engage the audience in the storytelling experience.
Outdoor Scavenger Hunt Challenge:
- Organize an outdoor scavenger hunt using robots as the “hunters” or guides. Program the robots to lead participants to hidden clues or treasures scattered around the outdoor area. Use coding to create clues, paths, and interactive challenges for a thrilling scavenger hunt adventure.
Here are some pics of our scavenger hunt, “pool noodle push challenge”, and beach freeze tag events. For the scavenger hunt, students had to travel to each surfboard. On the back was a building or coding challenge. Students had a blast and a majority are coming back next year.
