Cross Curricular writing activity

2nd grade created VEX robot intro stories! :robot:

The students worked in their VEX groups using the attached graphic organizer. Once the students wrote their final copies, they illustrated their robots. This was an engaging, creative cross curricular lesson that combined VEX & writing!

These are wonderful @Danielle_McCoy! It seems like these robots have had some great Pittsburgh adventures! I can’t wait to see what they get up to throughout the year

Writing stories to recap lessons and activities you do with the robots could be a great way to continue to build this connection students are making to their robots, and give them another way to share their learning.

Here is a snip it of how the students organized their writing using their graphic organizers. The students were interviewed about what their assignment was, how their writing incorporated sequencing (first, next, then) and even if their stories were classified as fiction or nonfiction.

Thank you so much for sharing this video! The literacy connections here are great. I would be so curious to see how students would write a non-fiction story about what their robots did today after coding their robots to do something!

I really enjoyed zooming in on these stories and reading some of them! I love the way the robot is going to all of the places the kids love - the mall, Kennywood, McDonalds! If you wanted, you could definitely bring those stories to life, by having the students make the places in their stories out of classroom materials and coding the 123 robot to visit them.

Love it!
