Reading @Audra_Selkowitz 's Community thread on using VEX GO to teach classroom procedures in a fun way gave me an idea that’s quick and easy, and might just reduce the number of times you hear students calling your name every day .
Why not challenge your students to use VEX GO pieces to signal they need teacher help without talking or raising their hands? You’ve probably seen or used a green/red system where students have a card they can flip from green to red to show if they are doing fine/need help. Well, this is the same idea, but in this case, you challenge students to design and build a help signal with the following requirements:
-
The signal must show green for “I’m fine and don’t need help” and red for “please come help me when you can”
-
The signal must be freestanding and small enough to sit on your desk/table/spot without getting in the way of your work
Here’s what I came up with - basically a flag that can be rotated to signal for teacher help:
I bet your students can come up with many more interesting ways to use the GO pieces for this challenge. If they do, please share some pictures! And, hopefully, at least until the novelty wears off, this build will make your classroom a little quieter!
