I have a few motors from EXP classroom kits that have stopped working. I’ve tested with different cables and different brains and nothing helps. Sometimes the brain doesn’t detect that the motor is plugged in at all, other times, it does detect it, but the motor just doesn’t spin. The EXP kits are pretty new, so I don’t think theses motors have been used too much. Also, when students had the motors on a robot, they were unable to turn them even manually with a wheel on a shaft. I noticed a similar problem earlier in the school year and it seemed to get better when I switched to shorter screws to hold the motor onto the structure. I’m just wondering if this is a common problem and if there is a good solution.
I think the best move considering the steps you’ve tried so far is to reach out to VEX Support. They’ll be a great source for further troubleshooting ![]()

I am also having this particular issue. I’m wondering what the resolution was. Our bots are brand new. We received them at the end of last school year/beginning of this school year and started using them back in March. Both of my engineering classes have had several issues and we’ve had to switch motors out semi regularly.
Hi @Lyndsey_Puckett! I’m sorry you’re running into issues with your EXP motors, that can be frustrating.
If the motors are fairly new and haven’t seen much use, reaching out to support (as @AlainaHaws mentioned above) is a great next step.
If they were working at first and then started having issues over time, I’d love to learn a bit more. What kinds of builds are they being used in, and how are they being coded in your projects? That context can really help us narrow down what might be going on.
