Fall Activities

Looking for fall activities. I do have the students create their own Thanksgiving Day parade.
Here is my assignment doc. Thanksgiving Float - Google Docs

What kids of things do you do?

With Halloween fast approaching, I’m reminded of this PD+ Community thread… featuring a link to the video Aimee and I did a few years ago with Halloween ideas with VEX!

Looking out the window and seeing some of the leaves that are changing reminds me of some of my favorite paint mixing activities. I used to go on a fall walk with students to collect leaves of different shades and then we would try to mix paint colors to match them. How does this fit in with robotics? Here are a couple of ideas:

  • In VEXcode VR, you could use the Art Canvas + to upload an image of leaves, and play around with the RGB sliders in the Fill color block to try to match the colors of the leaves you see out the window, or those you collected.
  • Using an Optical or Eye Sensor, you could do a fun investigation into hue value, and try to see the hue value reported for different colored leaves. Explore how the light affects the values reported, and see how shining a bright light at a leaf affects the sensor detection and your perception of hue/color.

Just a few ideas to get you started

Sounds great! It’s always nice to have some ideas not just for class, but when you find you have some extra time at the end of the day.
