When do I need to do this(when you set up the drivetrain and have a gear ratio option)? Are there any build instructions for more complex drivetrains for the education kit.
This is when you have setup in a different gear ratio for your drivetrain. So the “drive forward 200mm” will be accurate.
I would suggest to take a look at this video from this STEM lab VEX IQ - Tug of War - Lesson 3: Using a Gear Train - Learn
And a couple build instruction can be found here (only for gears, not the complete system): https://kb.vex.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039539291-Using-VEX-IQ-Plastic-Gears-Sprockets-and-Pulleys
Both of these resources should be helpful to you. If you need more support / have a specific questions, feel free to book a 1-on-1 that focus specific on gear ratio. We’d be happy to walk you through everything.
Hi,
Is the gear on the motor the input and the gear on the wheel the output? Also if we have the brain in a vertical position (not flat) does this affect heading… as in turning
Hi Maria!
That is correct for the input / output assignment.
For the Brain, the inertial sensor sensor inside of the 2nd gen Brain calibrates at the beginning of the project. Because of this, the Brain will always start at 0Âş heading when the project starts.
I tested this out on my IQ 2nd gen Brain and took a video for reference. So looking at the Devices screen, I calibrate my sensor with the Check mark then start rotating the Brain. You can see (with my one handed filming) that the heading is changing similar to what would happen with the Brain parallel to the table.
