I teach a class for one hour per week, but due to the need to set up and clean up the VEX AIM kits (since I work at an elementary school and the next class uses the same space), I only have about 40 minutes of instructional time per session.
I’m trying to determine the best way to structure my lessons to avoid overloading the students. My classes are scheduled in a way that I could have anywhere from 25 to 36 sessions with each homeroom, depending on whether I get them for 3 or 4 quarters of the year and what day of the week they are scheduled.
Typically, I try to cover as much material as possible within the time available, but in classes with fewer sessions, we simply cover fewer lessons. Since I haven’t used the VEX AIM lessons before, my main question is:
How many minutes per class session should each lesson/unit ideally take?
Welcome to the community!
Since AIM and the Intro Course are so new, we don’t have much data on the time it takes to complete a lesson or activity. Based on the feedback, however, we will be adding to the teacher notes in the coming days to the course to try and address this question!
My personal thought is that each lesson is roughly one 50 minute instructional period, but that will change as you move further into the course and the activities become more complex, with some taking two to three periods.
Hi @Thomas_Puzio - We’ve added some suggested times for each Unit in the AIM Intro Course, to help give you some idea of where to begin. This information is located in the Before You Begin teacher note in the Introduction of each Unit. Be sure you have the toggle set to Teacher to view the note.
I hope this information is helpful as you begin planning!
