I appreciate the views, but can people chime in?

Both previous questions have had several views, thankfully. I am presently going throught the worlds team list from last year to get an idea of geographic weighting. So far only about 5% come from rural areas. Not sure if it is worse than I expected, but data is showing a picture with about 120 locations reviewed. I still have over 600 to go. This is interesting to me as it speaks to the inconsistant application of our jobs. Hence why myself and others have pushed to have this room set up. So please add what you are doing and why. Not everyone will agree, but as adults we should be able to work through these differences to make for a better more levelled experience for the kids, who we are trying to help. Thanks.

Hi David,

Actually, I am confused about what you are speaking of.
Would you be able to add some headings and bullet points to outline this discussion that you would like others to share, “what they are doing and why.”

Once I understand, I will probably share.

Ok, since I have completed this data mining.

  1. For worlds USA only
    1. Cities roughly 1 hour away from a megalopolis, only 16.4% were from a population of less than 50,000.It went up to 19.3 % when the population was increased to 100,000.
    2. Pulling out states that have 5 or less electoral college votes and using the same population limits the numbers become 15.0% and 20.1%.
    3. So without knowing how many areas away from population centers are actually in VEX, it leaves massive holes in the data. Almost all teams come from megalopolis areas.I used google for populations and maps.I still have the spreadsheet and can provide it.I really am not trying to dig at VEX or anyone.I am a scientist and needed to try to make sense of my observations so this is a means to that end.

I know we need more information to get a more complete picture, but it would appear the field is not as level as desired. I know from being around IQ and V5 for 7 + years that the smaller teams target skills and competition as the only ways to get into state and so on. I constantly hear teams from the smaller cities saying the notebook does not matter, because the way the are graded varies too much.
