Although school has only begun a couple months ago, students are in full swing incorporating their VEX journals with the VEX builds/activities/labs that they are currently working on. The image below is just one way our students are documenting their VEX experiences using the Engineer Design Process within the classroom!
Does anyone else have suggestions on how you incorporate a journal within your classrooms when working with VEX?

This is really helpful, thank-you, Danielle. I am just starting to put together our engineering notebook for the Gr3-5 kids. I see this as such a critical piece. I am going to incorporate vertical white boards as I think (and research supports) this for children’s team work… but then getting ideas down in their notebook is equally important. I haven’t fleshed it out exactly and would love to hear from the experience of others at this grade level. I’ve seen some engineering notebooks for older students but I’d love to see the VEX GO level and from students at all different levels of comfort with writing AND engineering!

She shares practical strategies for using engineering notebooks to support reflection, communication, and problem-solvingm not just documentation, which sounds very much in line with what you’re hoping to accomplish with your grade 3–5 students.
