Hi! I’m wondering if there are others out there with multiple classes sharing the extra large classroom Gen 2 set? I’m new to this and the Scope and Sequence suggests (when using one set with multiple classes) doing Castle Crusher first, but I also see that Castle Crusher is an intermediate level. I see the Pacing Guide suggests Tug of War first, which looks like a beginning level unit. Which would you recommend we start with (or another one)? Thanks for your help!
Hi @Christina_Whitmire! This is a fantastic question
You’re correct, Castle Crasher is a more challenging Lab. Our team is looking at these resources now and thinking of ways to update them so they are more clear and consistent, so we appreciate you asking this question.
When teaching multiple classes, it is easiest to focus on Labs that use the same robot build. Castle Crasher does this (Tug of War has slight modifications to the robot, which could be challenging with using the same Kits for multiple classes), however I would recommend starting with Team Freeze Tag because it is a beginner Lab.
I recommend this because Team Freeze Tag will allow students to not only get experience building, but also driving with the Controller and learning how the robot moves for the first time. A breakdown of the concepts taught in each STEM Lab can be found in this article.
We will work to update the Scope and Sequences as well as the Pacing Guide to reflect this. I hope this helps please let me know if you have any other questions about pacing or implementation.
We’d also be happy to schedule a 1-1 Session and walk you through all of this if you prefer.
Thank you so much for your response, Lauren! I took your advice and we’re in the middle of Team Freeze Tag, and it’s working out really great! That is the perfect unit to start with in my situation. Thanks again!
Perfect @Christina_Whitmire I’m so glad, please let me know how the rest of the Unit pans out!
