Hello VEX 123 Teachers!
I wanted to let you know that we have a brand new 123 Activity Series live and ready for you! This Activity Series, Gnome in the Forest begins with a story about a Nomie, a very clever and helpful gnome, who engineers tools from materials in the forest around him to help rescue a baby bunny, and help a little deer reach some leaves high in a tree. Then his friends throw him a surprise party to celebrate his helpfulness!
In the first Activity, students create an attachment for the 123 Robot to help move a rock that is trapping the baby bunny. In the second Activity, students create a ladder attachment for the 123 Robot, then drive it to help a friend collect leaves from a tall tree.
And, in the third, students plan a path and then code the 123 Robot to drive Nomie home, where his friends are waiting to throw him a surprise party.
I am really enjoying thinking about all the creative ideas your students will come up with for their attachments, and the fun conversations this activity will spark, not just about computer science, but about using what you have on hand to solve problems, doing kind things for others, and ideas about throwing a surprise party!
Try it out in your classroom, and let us know what you think!
