New Insights! Cross-Curricular Connections with VEXcode VR: Art and Computer Science

Hello everyone! I just wanted to share a new Insights article that was posted: Cross-Curricular Connections with VEXcode VR: Art and Computer Science by @AlainaHaws!

This article discusses how combining VEXcode VR and computer science (CS) with art can bridge the gap between the two subjects, captivating students with diverse interests. The post highlights three educational activities: “Color by Number” integrates coding with art, teaching students spatial reasoning and color mixing as they code robots to paint designated areas. “Mondrian Patterns” honors artist Piet Mondrian, combining art history with CS concepts as students design geometric patterns using robots. Lastly, “Flower Garden” is a more advanced activity that blends math, art, and CS for creating flower patterns in VEXcode VR, focusing on variables and loops. Incorporating VEXcode VR with art encourages students to explore both fields creatively.

How do you plan on using these activities with your students?

The Art Canvas + Playground is one of my favorites in VR! And Activities like Color by Number can be used and remixed in creative ways throughout the year.

One of my favorite fall classroom activities when I taught was going on a walk to collect leaves and signs of fall, then mixing paint colors to match them. Imagine doing something like that - but with a virtual robot! Also just a great opportunity for fall fun around Halloween and other upcoming holidays to code your way to themed artwork!
