Python Text Coding

I am teaching my 7th grade students the Python Text coding. I have the class log in all up and running from my last question. But now my question is does VEX have any way of doing text coding on the iPad? I was under the assumption that it would work, but I am getting these messages that are now leading me to believe text coding is not available on the iPads and only on computers. I am OK with that for VR programs. However, for robot programs my computers have connection issues where I have to plug and unplug a ton of times to get it to connect for download. Thus being much easier with the iPads.

Unfortunately, text projects are not supported on any tablets. This is something that we are looking to implement as a future enhancement., but here is currently no timeline for implementing this feature.

If you are having issues with your robots staying connected to your computers, that is something that we can help you with right now. Have you already reached out to support or posted about the connect issue before? If not here are a few simple things to check.

  • Have you tried using different USB cables?
  • Are any other VEX programs open on your computers? Only one program can talk to a brain at a time.
  • Have you tried to restart the computers and check the connection before starting any other applications? As mentioned above, only one program can talk to the brain at a time, and there might be another application that tries to talk to the brain that is not made by VEX.
  • Have you tried connecting the VEX IQ Brain directly to the computer? Some USB hubs can cause flaky connections. By connecting directly to the computer we can eliminate that as a possible issue.

Hey Jacob, Thanks for the info. I will keep all of these questions in mind. I recall asking last year, but l did block coding with both 6th and 7th graders as the 7th graders did not do the block coding when they were in 6th grade. I will keep these questions in mind when we try to connect later this week for the programs they started today.

You mention connecting directly from the computer to the brain. I looked at bluetooth and did not see any way of doing it. I clicked the brain button on the VEXcodeIQ (similar to the iPad app) and there was no connection option. Do you happen to have the stops that I would be able to do this connection for me to try?
