I have 2 teams traveling to VEX Worlds in St. Louis and one of the parents is driving. They will be at soccer games for the weekend prior to arriving in St. Louis. Is is safe to leave the robot, battery, remote, and brain in the car all day during a soccer game?
Hey there!
Overall, it probably will be just fine with a couple precautions since it is approaching summer time and summer heat. When traveling with batteries, it’s best to make sure they are dead or close to dead before traveling. Leaving a fully charged battery of any kind in extreme temps can lead to a loss of battery life long term. It’s also more susceptible to battery loss when in direct sunlight in those extreme temperatures.
So my recommendation would be:
- Battery (brain battery and the controller) mostly dead or fully uncharged
- Packed out of direct sunlight
For the other electronics and the robot itself, it all depends on the length of time and the heat in the area. As ABS plastic, unless the car is being left in extreme temperatures (like in direct sunlight where the internal car temp gets to be >190º F), the robot should also be safe as well! Again I would just recommend having it in a storage system away from direct sunlight in the vehicle.
Good luck at VEX Worlds!
