Does the robot need to start with the entire back of the robot touching the wall or can they angle the robot so a portion of the robot is touching the wall. I cannot find any solid instruction on this. Thank you!

The specific rule you need to refer to is SG1 (pre-match setup) which tells you the criteria that must be satisfied at the start of the match. Assuming these criteria are satisfied, anything else is free for you to do.
The game manual usually tells you things you must do and things you must not do. So as long as you satisfy the must dos, and do not break the must not dos, that middle ground is where competitive advantage and creative strategies live.
