Starting the Year Strong with VEX IQ: Building the 2-Motor Drivetrain Robot

In this photo, my son is in 5th grade. Now that he’s in 6th grade, it’s evident how the teamwork and problem-solving skills he gained from VEX Robotics in elementary school are contributing to his success in middle school.

My 5th grade students are kicking off the year with a cool VEX IQ 2-motor drivetrain robot project, sparking their curiosity and laying the groundwork for future challenges. Through hands-on robotics, they’re building essential skills and a passion for technology. What’s your favorite VEX IQ project for introducing students?

When I toured middle schools for my son, one thing became clear: schools are increasingly looking for students who excel in skills like teamwork, problem-solving, and innovation. In today’s fast-paced world, being tech-savvy is just the start.

Middle Schools now place a high value on students who can collaborate effectively, think critically, and tackle challenges creatively. Fostering these skills in elementary school gives our children a significant advantage. They learn to embrace risks, overcome obstacles, and find innovative solutions—qualities that middle schools are prioritizing more than ever.

By introducing robotics and hands-on projects early on, we’re not just preparing them to stand out; we’re setting them up for success as they move forward in their education.
