Have you seen the newest VEX GO Activity - Swift Switch: Motorized Drawbridge?. In this activity, students construct a simple motorized drawbridge using a Motor and Switch with a pulley!
I could see this being a great follow up to the Astronaut Rescue Activity, where your pulley becomes mechanized. You could even then apply what you learned with the Swift Switch to blend the build with the Astronaut Rescue builds
The drawbridge brings castles to mind for me (and storytelling). I think this could be used in conjunction with the storyline from the 123 Dragon in the Village Activity Series. The same story to frame it, but with more building oriented activities with VEX GO.
This is the story to Dragon in the Village (in case you’re unfamiliar)
Instead of the 123 Activities that involve driving from the village to the castle, from the castle to the village to gather supplies, and then creating a dragon pushing robot with the Art Ring, VEX GO Activities could be spun to fit this theme:
-
Get to the Castle becomes Raise the Drawbridge! using this Swift Switch Activity. Students build the drawbridge to protect the villagers in the castle from the dragon roaming free in the village.
-
Gather Materials becomes the Ladder Rescue Activity (from the Animal Rescue Activity Series). Put a spin on it to have students build a ‘pushing’ part of the ‘dragon pushing robot’.
-
Push the Dragon then becomes the Mobile Rescue Activity (from the Animal Rescue Activity Series) with a spin on it to create a whole ‘dragon pushing robot’ that can be rolled around the village to push the dragon away.
This could be a really neat mixed age experience, or just a creative way to connect storytelling with VEX GO. @Tina_Dietrich and @Laura_Mackay , @Jessica_Drayer, and @Anna_Blake this seems up your alley!
