I recently took a trip, and got to spend some relaxing time in a pool and floating along a “lazy river” in a tube. After floating around the same pathway a few times, I realized that this could be a neat inspiration for a 123 Activity!
Here’s my sample duck floatie for inspiration
Basically you’d create a ‘pool’ with your 123 Field, and use tape to delineate different “Lazy River” pathways around the pool. Depending on the coding method you’re using, these could be straight line paths with 90 degree turns, or more curved and “organic” pathways.
For instance, a path like this gives students opportunities to experiment with turn angles in VEXcode 123 and poses a significant challenge to code their robot to follow the path. It’s a ‘river’, so they don’t have to go exactly on the line, but the goal is to go as close to it as possible.
You could also layer multiple paths in the same pool, (like this) to create different challenges. Students could choose which path, or do the straight one first then ‘level up’ to the curved path. They also overlap, giving the option of a ‘choose your own path’ around the pool.
What other “summer fun” type activities can you think of as inspiration for 123 Activities? I’ll tag @Desiree_White-Price, @Anna_Blake, @Tina_Dietrich and @Danielle_McCoy and @James_Nesbitt to get the ball rolling!
