Using IQ Online Camp All Year Round

Getting back into the groove of a school year after a break can be difficult for some students and teachers. You need to re-establish routines and find ways to engage students. I think Online Camps are a great way to do that!

The VEX IQ Online Camp - Robot Games, introduces students to the VEX IQ Kit through interactive experiences like building the tallest tower while learning about stability and rigidity in building. They also build, drive, and code their own robots through other challenges and games. All of the instruction is already provided in videos, so it gives you a chance to facilitate and really see how your students are interacting and progressing with the challenges.

Personally, I would use these as good organizing activities for the beginning of school. The first video is about 40 minutes long, not including some time for the students to pause and work on their towers, so you could get two class periods of students building and engaging with their kit. Then you can facilitate as needed, but really observe your students’ problem solving approach and learn more about their understanding of the engineering design process before you move into a STEM Lab and help them establish that process.

We also have the Robot Games camp aligned to standards! To see what standards each camp session aligns to, check out the Camps column in the IQ Content Standards spreadsheet. Each tab showcases a different US standards body from NGSS to Common Core, so you can find the standards you are looking for.
