VEX AIM - Go to coordinates question

Hi everyone,

I’m working with VEX AIM and trying to figure out how to get the robot to return to its original starting position after completing a task.

Ideally, I’d like to use the “set robot position to X, Y” block to establish a starting point (e.g., 0, 0), have the robot move around and complete an activity, then automatically navigate back to those original coordinates.

The reason is that I’m developing activities involving AprilTags, which the robot needs to be facing fairly directly to identify reliably. I’d like the robot to return to a consistent starting position and orientation before searching for the next AprilTag.

My questions are:

- Does the “set robot position” block simply assign coordinates to the robot’s current location, or can it be used for navigation?

- Is there a way to tell the robot to move back to specific X/Y coordinates using VEXcode AIM Blocks?

- What’s the simplest approach to returning to both a starting position and heading?

I’m using Blocks rather than Python for these activities, so ideally I’d like to keep the solution within that environment.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Hello Dax,

There is not a function to return to the block you set at 0,0. You would need to calculate the return angle and distance.

Code should look something like this:
// Return to origin
turn to heading (atan2 of x:[x] y:[y]) degrees
drive forward for (distance to origin) mm

// Re-orient
turn to heading 0 degrees
