Hi, everyone. I’m interested in running a VEX GO camp with LEP (Limited English Proficient) students. As a bit of a background, I am an educator working for a private school in Japan with 99% of the student body being native speaking Japanese children. While the students at my school are bilingual and we already have a robust after school program using VEX, I am interested in a community outreach to the local area, and thought the best way to do this would be to use VEX. Has anyone done something similar to this, or even more broadly, ELL students at your own school?
I’d love to hear your story.

Hi Jesse,
Here’s some useful information you can share with LEP/ELL students:
-
VEXcode GO in English and Japanese
VEXcode GO can be used in both Japanese and English. You can have students start their project in English, and if they get stuck, simply switch the interface to Japanese so they can see the translated blocks.
-
GO Printable Storybooks
We also have GO printable books available here: VEX Printables – GO Section. These are designed like storybooks, making them great to read together with students. The colorful illustrations can help support understanding and engagement.
If there’s anything you think would benefit from being translated, please feel free to let us know!
Please let me know if this is helpful!

Hi Jimmy,
Thank you for your reply. I think bouncing back and forth between languages would be a great way to help students really sink their teeth into the content and improve their engagement and fun with the camp content. I look forward to providing the community an update in the future.
Have a wonderful day.
Warmest regards,
Jesse
