VEXcode VR: A Hit with My Students

Excited to share how VEXcode VR has become a hit with my students! This free, web-based simulator has transformed the way they engage with coding throughout the school year. The Coral Reef Clean-Up project not only teaches them programming skills but also instills a sense of environmental responsibility.

Students often use the platform during class, after school, and during breaks and holidays to dive deeper into more complex programming challenges. Watching them connect their learning to real-world issues has been incredibly rewarding. Check out my latest insights on how VEXcode VR is making a difference in the classroom!

VR VEX

What makes me happiest this year is that the kids are still talking about it! They’re excited about new updates in VEXcode VR and have even used it outside of class. Plus, they get to print certificates showing how much trash they collected, which makes them proud of their accomplishments.

VEXcode VR also features great quiz questions that connect to the Computer Science reinforcing their learning and helping them grasp key concepts.

This project has taught them critical thinking and problem-solving as well. They learned that the robot’s battery can run out, so they had to adapt their strategies to keep going.

It’s a great reminder of how important it is to expose kids to activities they might not know they love yet. By giving them these opportunities, we’re helping them discover their passions and set them up for success.

How do you use VEXcode VR or similar tools in your classroom?

Since I am no longer in the classroom, I dont have the opportunity to use VR in a classroom. But I have been using it at home! My step-daughters recently started school at a district that uses VEX and they have been coming home to tell me all about their projects. On a recent remote learning day, one of them was having technical difficulties with her Google classroom, so she spent HOURS crashing castles on Castle Crasher+ and started making her own artwork with the Art Canvas+ playground. It was a fantastic tool for me, as the parent having to monitor students with remote school, to be able to keep her engaged and learning with some open-ended projects.

She has already asked when we can hang out on the couch and “play” more VEXcode VR. It’s a fantastic tool for educators and parents. I wish I still was in the classroom just so I could use some of these tools.
