Hi All,
Anyone have a tips for the catapult bots? All my students have completed the build but none of their bots can launch the ball any further than a slow roll over the front of the bot. We have tried manipulating things and haven’t had much luck. Any tips?
Hi @Marissa_Brown and welcome to the Community!
I’ll tag @Matthew_Goodwin here as he’s our educational mechanical engineer.
I would also check out this thread about the CatapultBot.
There’s also the Bucky Basketball STEM Lab and a build video for the robot.
Matt covers in that video how to add rubber bands. Adding additional bands could help with the tension to launch the balls further.
Let me know if this helps!
Hi @Lauren_Harter we used the video that corresponds with Bucky Basketball. We have been able to manipulate a few of the bots but it is time consuming to take them apart multiple times so I was just looking for a fix for my next semester class. Thanks
@Marissa_Brown could you please share a video of your CatapultBot launching? The issue you mentioned of the Buckyball barely rolling over the top leads me to believe you either
- may have only 1 rubber band attached to your catapult,
- or the 1x12 bar might be bent toooo much
We’ll see though, thanks!
Hi,
We had one to start per the buckey ball video guide. We have changed that and moved the entire apparatus up one bot. It seems to be better. If we continue to have the issue we will upload on Monday. Thanks
Great thanks @Marissa_Brown! Glad to hear it is working better
