VEX Robotics Community Introductions

Hi @David_Wettrich our new camps have gone live if you haven’t yet been able to check them out, you can do so here: https://camps.vex.com/

Hi everyone

my name is Darren, this is my first full year of teaching and getting my head around Vex. I teach on the Gold Coast, Queensland Australia.I have implemented a program using the VEX Go for Reception to Yr 2 students progressing through to touch, coder and then Vexcode control. I’m using VEX 123 for Years 3-5/6 and have converted the STEM Labs into lesson plans. I’m learning on the job and enjoying the experiences that the boys are having. next year I’m hoping to move into some competition construction. I look forward to reading lots of informative and fun advice and extending my knowledge. Cheers
Darren

Hi Nicole

Where are you based in Australia? I have started on the VEX journey and would be great to have a few connections in the same country :grinning:

thanks Darren

Welcome to the community @Darren_Fellowes! We’re so glad you’re here. That’s so exciting to hear that you’re converting the STEM Labs into lesson plans! I would love to see some of those, I know @Omar_Cortez does that for IQ/EXP, so it’s very exciting to see that being done for GO as well.

I’m excited to continue to learn with you

Hi @Darren_Fellowes I’m based in Adelaide where our VEX office is. Have you had a chance to speak with @luke_henderson? We have some great things coming up including our first Australian Educators Conference the day before EduTECH. Also checking that you have been in touch with Dan Ricardo, he is our EP up in Gold Coast and a wealth of knowledge. Welcome to the Community, we are so glad you are here and please collaborate on any of the threads to gain ideas or share what you are doing. If you want to connect directly to chat more about PD+ and how it can support you with all you are doing, you can email me at: nicole_champagne@innovationfirst.com or 0448 805 377

G’day everyone! My name is Garry and I am a robotics educator based in Sydney, Australia. My tuition garage-project Creator Academy has expanded over the last few years and I currently run VEX classes in three locations around the city.
Prior to becoming an educator, I was a video game programmer, marketer and filmmaker for 12 years.
My latest project is making Youtube video tutorials for students and teachers.
Looking forward to collaborating with you all!

"Hello, VEX PD+ community! My name is Daniel Faddis, and I am thrilled to be a part of this dynamic group. As the Robotic Teacher at Dahlonegah Schools in Oklahoma, I’ve had the privilege of working with students to foster a love for STEM education.

Joining VEX PD+ is a dream come true, as I’ve been eager to explore new ways to enhance our school’s learning experience through the VEX IQ robotic program. I believe that hands-on learning is a powerful tool, and robotics offers endless opportunities for creativity and problem-solving.

My goals in joining this community are to learn from experienced educators, collaborate on innovative teaching approaches, and, most importantly, inspire my students to become confident thinkers and future leaders in the robotics field.

I’m excited to engage in discussions, attend workshops, and share my own experiences as we work together to empower the next generation of innovators. Thank you for welcoming me into this community, and I can’t wait to connect with all of you!"

Hi Vex Community!! My name is Mike Bothwell. I’m the newly appointed K-8 STEAM & Robotics Coach for the Woodland Hills SD just outside Pittsburgh, PA.

For the past 13 years I’ve held a role as a technology integration coach in my district and the 6 before that I taught high school social studies. My district started using Vex last year in K-5 and this year we are running a fully implemented K-8 scope. Grades K-5 have 40min of dedicated Vex per day with 20min of cross curricular work as well. In grades 6-8, we are rolling out Vex in our Math, Science, and Computer Applications classes along with a STEAM rotation with a focus on competition.

Looking forward to my new role and looking forward to interacting with all of you in PD+ to create a more robust learning experience for all our students. Have a great year!!

Welcome @Erika_Montandon, welcome to the VEX PLC!

As you are getting started coaching VRC Teams, I suggest checking out VRC Virtual Skills . Here are a few great posts from @Ling_Zhang shared to the Community to get you started: https://plc.pd.vex.com/t/new-coach-best-training-options/966/3?u=nicole_champagne

In addition be sure to check out our * V5 Over Under STEM Lab → In this Unit, you will build Striker, the HeroBot for the 2023-2024 VRC Over Under game and learn how to score.
Throughout the Unit you will learn about driving Striker and how to begin to code Striker for autonomous movement so that you can participate in the Robot Skills Challenge during the competition season.
