I had some fun this weekend creating a seasonal project for VEX AIM. The robot plays “In the Hall of the Mountain King” on its own speaker and dances to it at the same time. It creeps along slowly, speeds up with the music, and finishes with a spin and a cheer. The song stack sends a message each time the music changes, and three small dance stacks listen for those messages, so the robot does two things at once and stays in step. Here is a link to the video.
I’ve attached the project file.
I also created a small lesson plan if you want to do something similar in your classroom. There is also a student-facing “dance card.” The lesson fits one period (hopefully), and the Dance Card is where pairs plan their dance in words before they touch a block.
If you try it, I’d love to see what your students change.
