New Coach Best Training Options

Hi all!

I am joining an established robotics competition program as a coach, and I’m looking for the best prep training I can do before the season starts. I have an excellent mentor coach, but I want to show up prepared and ready to rock!

I am already doing the Vex V5 Certified Educator Course, but what other resources would you recommend for a new coach to help make our students successful? Thanks!

Hello @Joe_Park and welcome! So excited you’re here!

If you’re new to V5, there are two things that I would recommend:

  1. The V5 Educator Certification Course (here is a link to the summary).
  2. The Over Under STEM Lab Unit, which is focused entirely on getting started with this year’s VRC game.

Let me know if this information is helpful or if you have any further questions! I’ll also tag @Omar_Cortez here so he can share his coaching experience

Hi @Joe_Park Welcome to the VEX PLC! Great question and suggestions by @Lauren_Harter. I also suggest the use of VRC Virtual Skills. Here are a few great posts from @Ling_Zhang shared to the Community to get you started:

I have a PD + for VRC Coaches, does that give me access to the V5 Training Course?

Hi @David_Wettrich! Great question, unfortunately no. Coaches have access to certain material (in your case the VRC/VIQRC material or sections) in PD+ except Insights and 1-1 sessions  Access to the educators conference is not included with Coach PD+ licenses.

You have access to the VEX V5 Educator Certification Course, but not the Introduction to VEX V5 Course.

To learn more about what a Coach license has access to in PD+, you can take a tour from the Dashboard.

Hello everyone! I also wanted to post here this article that covers the different PD+ offerings in case there was any confusion about what each type of PD+ license offers!
